The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is an excellent source for all kinds of safety statistics and driving tips, including the most dangerous cars.

The IIHS recently introduced a new type of safety test called the small overlap frontal crash.  The test is meant to measure what happens when only a small part of the left front of the vehicle collides with another car or solid object.

In an interview with 24/7 Wall St.,Russ Rader, senior vice president of communications at IIHS told 24/7 Wall St. that this type of accident contributes to about 25% of all injuries and fatalities in front end crashes.

The new test was implemented a few years ago and car manufacturers have been scrambling to improve the safety rating of their vehicles.

Some companies are doing better than others.  Here is a list compiled IIHS statistics as compiled by 24/7 Wall St.  These autos have all been rated using the Small Overlap Front test.
