In 1911, the Massachusetts State Legislature passed a law requiring employers to protect their employees with worker’s compensation insurance. In 1912, the Massachusetts Employees Insurance Association was born. They later become Liberty Mutual.
The company issued its first automobile policy in 1914.
In 1957, Liberty-Mutual Insurance introduced two prototype cars designed to improve safety with standard features that included headrests to guard against whiplash and seat belts.
