State Auto
In 1921, Robert Pein was determined to create a new kind of insurance company dedicated to serving the needs of the community – not the needs of the insurance executives. He founded the State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company with three employees and a rented room in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Today, the State Auto Insurance Company employs approximately 2,200 associates and markets products and services through independent insurance agencies. Group assets are in excess of $3.8 billion with a 2013 direct written premium of $2.0 billion.
State Auto and Insurance Advisors of St. Louis
We’ve coveted their contract for many, many years. We finally got the contract five years ago.
State Auto relied on independent agents to assure the most efficient service. Independent Agents are still State Auto’s only distribution method.
In 1936, Ohio passed the first driver’s license law. That law followed a financial liability law passed the year before, which dramatically increased the number of people purchasing auto liability insurance.
In 2010, State-Auto reached a significant milestone of 1 million policies and 1 billion in total premiums.
