Methods to Mitigate Rodent Damage to Your Automobile
If You Have Determined That You May Have A Rodent Problem Take The Following Steps To Mitigate Rodent Damage:
At the first sign of rodent droppings, nesting or actual damage in the engine compartment here are some things to do to help mitigate rodent damage.
- It is essential to leave your hood up at night.
This takes away the warmth quicker, allows more moisture to enter the compartment and it exposes the area to more light.
Open your hood for 1-2 weeks and then reduce to 2-3 times per week once you feel comfortable that there are no more rodents visiting your car.
- If it seems as though rodents are still visiting your car it’s time to set some traps.
- You’ll need six traps.
Rat King Dave prefers Tomcat Rat Snap Traps or Tomcat Press ‘N Set Mouse Traps. They’re easy to set and very efficient.

- Spray Rodent Defense into the Engine Compartment Immediately
Rodent Defense is an all-natural, environmentally friendly peppermint scented deterrent and repellent for mice, rats, and squirrels. It’s available at Walmart and most hardware stores. The purpose of the spray is to confuse the rodent as to the relative safety of the engine compartment. It masks the odor of their urine that they use to mark paths, locations food, nests, etc.
It will hopefully keep the rodents away and your car will smell minty fresh as well!
- Shine Bright Lights on the Tread of the Front Two Tires
Rodents prefer to stay concealed and bright lights will deter them from climbing up the treads of the tires and into the engine.
