The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety,  www.iihs.org is an excellent source for all kinds of safety statistics and driving tips, including the top 20 most dangerous cars.

The IIHS recently introduced a new type of safety test called the small overlap frontal crash.  The test is meant to measure what happens when only a small part of the left front of the vehicle collides with another car or solid object.

In an interview with 24/7 Wall St., Russ Rader, senior vice president of communications at IIHS told 24/7 Wall St. that this type of accident contributes to about 25% of all injuries and fatalities in front-end crashes.

The new test was implemented a few years ago and car manufacturers have been scrambling to improve the safety rating of their vehicles.
